Imagine that you lead a development team responsible for writing a new software application. Your team has most of the skills they need to complete the project, but they're going to need your help and leadership. You need to make sure that your team has completed a high-quality application within six months, but if you get it done sooner, that's even better.
As both a manager and an expert programmer, you have a lot of skills that you can share with your team. You are responsible for setting goals, coaching your team, holding meetings, and hiring or layoffs. You can even delegate some of your personal tasks to your team, if you like.
Your success will be measured according to four attributes: project cost (measured in person-days), success meeting the goals you set for the team, your team's attitude during the project, and your ability to complete your personal tasks.
