Your Goals
- You are playing the role of one of five team members attempting to summit Mount Everest.
- There are 5 camps or checkpoints along the route to the Summit (top) of Mt. Everest. Each “round” of play you and your teammates will review information and then make a group decision regarding whether to attempt to climb to the next camp. At times during the simulation it will be necessary for you to solve challenging problems that you encounter during your summit attempt. Addressing these problems effectively will require careful and thoughtful consideration. An appropriate solution may also require the use of quantitative analysis. The Prepare -> How-To screen details the simulation interface and reviews the information and decision-making options available to you. It is important to note that even if you are rescued during the simulation it is vital for both you and your teammates that you remain fully engaged in the experience and continue to participate in all aspects of the decision-making processes.
- The Prepare -> Your Profile screen will explain your particular role on the team. This information will include your personal goal for the expedition. Additionally, all team members share the common goal of maintaining health and avoiding getting rescued-- a fate that awaits those who do not properly monitor their health during the climb. It is important to emphasize that the two main conditions associated with an individual's deteriorating health, the development of symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness and frostbite, represent conditions which are difficult to treat and are best prevented through appropriate decision-making during the climb. Please remember that your performance in this simulation will be assessed in regards to these two goals -- your personal goal, and the shared goal of remaining healthy.
