Problem with launching vensim model (.vmfx) on epicenter

Hi,

I am following on an earlier email I sent: In trying to convert to epicenter (from regular forio) I cannot get the vensim model to run.

When I previewing I receive a message saying “either the model file(null) must end in a valid extension or the model language must be provided “. (Note: I am using a .vmfx file, which got recognised in the interface builder. A file saved as xxxx.vmf did not get recognized in the builder).

Possibly relevant:

  • When launching the interface builder I get the message “Can no longer find model null. Selected a new model to use with your interface.”, after which I can select the xxxx.vmfx file and work on the interface builder. (Further, the model uses an excel spread sheet through “GET Direct DATA” commands but I dont think that is a problem.)

Would it please be possible to advise?

Is there perhaps a contact in Europe who can help out?

Best and many thanks,

Jeroen

Hi Jeroen,

I was able to take a look at your sim and have a few comments.

  1. First-- if you are using Vensim 8, please save and upload as a “vmfx” file. Use the “vmf” type for Vensim 6 or 7.

  2. For some reason, it lost the name of the model, and couldn’t get set again. We’ll have to look further into this. (Possibly because the file was changed to a VMF?). I edited the “index.html” page, which is where the model name is stored, and then was able to run the sim again.

  3. You are using the sensitivity input page, which is an experimental feature, and unfortunately not well documented. For run comparison sims, we recommend using a Scenario Decision or Tabbed Decision page.

My immediate suggestion is to replace the sensitivity input page with Scenario Decision, which should let you make and compare different runs of the sim.

Great thanks - I had been searching through the interface folders for where the model was called but could not find it. This works now. (Now the model works I can see other problems and will try to deal with this.)
