VensimUtilityException: Can't set variable

I have a Vensim model that uploaded into Epicenter. Then I tried to create sliders in the UI to modify the values of model variables, but I got the error: VensimUtilityException: Can’t set variable.
The variables in question are set to Game variables in Vensim.

Hi,

Thanks for writing in. Can you let us know the name of your account/project (or just the URL)?

Thanks,

Hi,

my acount/project is sruutu/maps

Hi,

The error is with the variable ‘GAME Desired design staff[Plant]’ - I looked into your model and it’s configured as ‘Auxiliary -> Normal’ when it should be ‘Auxiliary -> Gaming’. The variables for the other 2 sliders (Scheduled start & Scheduled Completion) are correctly configured.

Let us know if you have more questions.

Hi,
I changed the variables to “gaming” variables in Vensim and uploaded the new model file. But still I get the same error… The “scheduled start” and “scheduled end” variables seem to be working fine.

Here’s what I see in the current model uploaded to your project

57%20AM

Am I missing something?

Hi,
In the model I uploaded that particular variable is set to sub-type “gaming”. I checked it by downloading the file again from Epicenter (model files / MAPS.vmf -> view raw).

In order to activate the new model version, is there something else I need to do besides upload the file to Epicenter?

Hi,

The version of the model which is on the server definitely does not have that set to gaming - I had 2 others sanity check it for me by downloading and opening it in Vensim (same steps you described) to make sure I’m not looking at the wrong model.

Are you sure you’re looking at the correct version when you download? I’d recommend clearing your downloads folder and downloading again to be sure. If you still have trouble, email the model you have to support@forio.com and we can upload it for you to double-check.

I’m having this same trouble in my project. I initially had variables set as constant and changed them to auxilary-gaming variables. I deleted the old model and uploaded the new one (after clearing the downloads file). Forio appears not to update the model file, complaining that the variable is not gaming. I also changed the initial value in the vensim model (vmf) and that did not change either. Is there a resolution to this problem? The variable is “initial staffing” which I want to be gaming.

Thanks!

Hi – I should have responded again to the previous message. We determined over correspondence that the author was looking at a different variable.

Please check carefully in your model as well. A decision that’s being set in a turn-by-turn needs to be type=Auxiliary, Subtype=Gaming. An input for a run comparison or calculator-style-one-page model should by Type=Constant or a gaming variable.

Turns out I was loading the model but not changing to it in the settings. Works fine now. Thanks!
