Cyber Attack!

IT Management Simulation

Simulation Overview

In this immersive cybersecurity and IT management simulation, learners step into the role of a Chief Technology Officer responding to a real-time cyberattack on a major online retailer. The experience challenges participants to manage conflicting priorities — from diagnosing technical failures to preserving business continuity, reputation, and legal compliance.

Through a series of decisions and evolving events, learners practice crisis management, decision-making under uncertainty, and cross-functional collaboration. The simulation models real-world digital threats and organizational dynamics, allowing participants to explore principles of IT governance, risk assessment, and communication strategies during cyber crises.

Theoretical underpinnings include systems thinking, behavioral decision theory, and organizational communication frameworks that emphasize rational problem solving and adaptive leadership under stress. Learners finish with a deeper understanding of crisis preparedness and digital resilience in contemporary organizations.

A leading online retailer has just gone dark. Emails taunt your team, orders are failing, and every minute counts. As the CTO, you must lead under pressure — balancing technical triage, conflicting advice, and nervous executives watching the stock price. How do you keep your team focused, communicate with stakeholders, and protect customer data when no one knows the full story?

In this high-stakes simulation, learners experience the chaos and complexity of managing a live cyberattack — testing their ability to stay calm, think critically, and lead decisively amid digital uncertainty.
