Simulation Overview

In the Innovation Simulation, you play the role of a Product Manager who is tasked with finding an innovative strategy to help a struggling newspaper company. Working around time limits and budget, participants must design open innovation campaigns, focus groups, and R&D projects. After narrowing down a selection of new ideas, you are tasked with choosing the best possible innovation for the news organization. This simulation focuses on managing the innovation process, the many different modes of innovation, and the role of organizational context. This simulation is played in a single player asynchronous environment.


Time Requirement

  • Introduction - 10 minutes
  • Game Play - 20 minutes to 30 minutes
  • Debrief - 45 minutes to 1 hour

The Story

Once a thriving news outlet, The Citizen Sun has been struggling in recent years due to smartphones and social media. After receiving a mandate from the company’s CEO, you are tasked with developing new ideas to bolster sales, counter declining subscriptions, and improve your web presence. Working within the constraints of limited budget and time, you must produce a list of potential innovations ideas and present the best solution to the CEO.
